Progress report July 2009
Dear Friends of SRIVERM,
As we are counting our blessings this year, one of the greatest has been the life of Swami Hari. He served as a beacon of light for so many in so many ways. He has been an example, inspiration, and personification of selfless service and love, especially with SRIVERM.
SRIVERM continues to be a source of hope for remote mountain villagers badly needing our help. The Malethi elementary school currently has 87 students from K4 to 6th grade. The vocational school has 90 students enrolled in one of four certified programs: electrical, plumbing, computers and sewing. There have been 128 vocational graduates so far.
And there’s new initiatives being developed.
The Rose Cultivation Initiative – SRIVERM, in cooperation with the Rural Development Institute, is cultivating roses for the production of rose oil. 15,000 plants are expected to be received and planted in the next six months. It will take two to three years for the program to be fully operable. This will, hopefully, become a good income generator for SRIVERM in the future.
The Herbal Project – SRIVERM is developing a nursery to propagate herbs to be distributed to the village communities. The villages will grow and harvest the herbs and bring them to SRIVERM to send to the manufacturers.
